CLS First lecture.
In this lecture we focused on shot sizes and the method of shooting. Exploring the visual language and learning the art of directing the eye and organising information. Understanding that every shot is the most important and each image should stand alone.
lines and axis are very important in giving depth to an image, the illusion of 3D, giving order and hierarchy to objects and add resonance and create discordance.
vertical lines insinuate strength and standing up/against something whereas horizontal lines create a feeling of depression or oppression. diagonal lines give a sense of imbalance. each shot needs to have meaning and suggest a metaphorical place.
We also looked at focus, deep focus meaning everything in shot is in focus giving the audience choice in what they're most interested in. However shallow focus is specific on a certain subject making sure the audience are subjected to one object.
Shallow focus is usually a closed frame, in order to condense the action and focus on one subject. Whereas an open frame is usually in deep focus to motivate the next scene, and example of this is Hitchcocks psycho shower scene.
